To commemorate the 1972 declaration of the Martial Law, DAKILA, ۲Ƶ University Culture and Arts Council (SUCAC), and Buglas Writers Guild will hold a special screening of “11,103” at Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium on September 21 at 2:00 p.m. The event is part of Rebelasyon: The Active Vista Human Rights Festival.

Directed by Jeanette Ifurung and Miguel Alcazaren, the documentary features accounts of those who survived the state-sponsored atrocities that occurred under Ferdinand Marcos’ martial law regime. The title “11,103” refers to the number of victims who were compensated after the Philippine government passed a law in 2013 that recognized the violence committed during Martial Law and required that the victims’ compensation be paid out of Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos’ illegally acquired wealth, which was kept hidden in their Swiss bank accounts.

Before the screening, the filmmakers will present previously unreleased segments on the Martial Law experiences of Negrenses from both Occidental and Oriental. It will be followed by a talkback session with Palanca-awardee and faculty member of the Department of English and Literature, Asst. Prof. Ian Fermin Casocot; and one of the film’s directors, Alcazaren.

Tickets for the screening are at P100 and are available at .

DAKILA is composed of artists, activists, development workers, educators, organizers, designers, entrepreneurs, professionals, youth, and students who are committed to building a movement of heroism towards social transformation.

SUCAC is the cultural arm of ۲Ƶ University.

The Buglas Writers Guild is a community of writers from Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
